As we leave 2016, David Sutta Photography and Films enters a major milestone… our 10th year. So much has happened over the past decade. We’ve won a few Emmy’s (17!), won a few Tellys (4!), hired some folks (2 Full time, 5 part time), and grown a little bit (a few lbs)! I love what we do because it’s not only an outlet for us creatives to share… but we get to capture people’s stories as well. Whether it’s a tech conference of 10,000, a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, or a stunning wedding, we know how important these moments are. It is an honor to be a part of it all.
I am thrilled with where the journey has taken us. As we head into our tenth anniversary I’m looking forward to what is still to come. That said I would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge some of the incredible moments that happened in 2016. While the title of this is The Best of 2016, honestly it was hard to choose. We did more than 100 shoots this year… with a LOT of awesome photos. This year we also beefed up our corporate shoots and increased our video production output. While we love all our clients… here are some of the standout moments.
2016 Endeavor Miami Gala, Soho Studios, Wynwood
Dinner for hundreds! Honoring Jessica Goldman Srebnick, CEO of Goldman Properties and Co-founder and CEO of Goldman Global Arts.
Best Fundraising Event:
DCC VI, Miami, Coral Gables, Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, Hard Rock Stadium
Sheryl Crow and Melissa Ethridge headlining!
Andy Weisenborn has participated in the Dolphins Cancer Challenge since it’s inception. Unfortunately his cancer battle kept him from riding this year. His friend Mike stepped up though and offered to pull him on the ride. Afterwards Andy address the crowd of riders… offering them hope and inspiration.
Sadly after a very long hard fight, cancer took Andy’s life in 2016. We remember his spirit, his enthusiasm, his hope that one day we will beat this terrible disease.
Best Corporate event
eMerge, Miami Beach Convention Center
This is our second year at eMerge, providing photos for an impressive list of speakers and some 10,000 attendees. That list includes Pit Bull, Colin Powell, Monica Lewinsky, Marc Randolph (the founder of Netflix), Tony Hawk, and yes… that’s Paul Mitchell.
Nasdaq closing bell photo (published worldwide)
A hat tip to the eMerge team as they help transform Miami’s tech environment! It’s very impressive.
Best Engagement Shoot
Mitchell & Yeni, Fort Lauderdale Beach
Best of Weddings
Biggest formal shot: Mitchell and Yeni, Hyatt Regency Pier 66, Fort Lauderdale
For the record, about 30 people in this photo doubted me. Even after the photos they were making bets they weren’t in the shot!
Jamie and Jon Mann, Temple Beth Emet, Cooper City
Seriously the nicest people you will meet.
And seriously… what a dress!
Most ridiculously cute couple
Jason and Janerly, Cooper Estate, Homestead
This rustic venue is a spectacular intimate backdrop. Put these two in there and cuteness factor became ridiculous!
Chad and Courtney, Hyatt Regency Pier 66 Fort Lauderdale
They had just said I do and kissed. As they turned to walk down the aisle Chad’s fellow Marines lowered their swords and demanded a kiss to pass. The obliged. Click. What a shot!
Best of True Love
Josh and Mera, The Addison, Boca Raton
I meet a lot of couples. 96% are truly in love. These two are 110% in love.
It’s a great foundation as they start out together in 2017.
Best of Best of!
We had way too many awesome photos worthy of recognition!
Marisa and Oded, Coral Gables Country Club
Samantha and George, Hyatt Regency Pier 66, Fort Lauderdale
The Viralams, Palm Beach
This impromptu (yes impromptu) Indian wedding was a lot of fun. You put rice on your spouses head as a blessing. You apparently can pour your blessings as well!
Best of Awkward
Rich and Ivelina, Hyatt Regency Pier 66, Fort Lauderdale
Best dog photos of 2016:
Corey and Lucy, Hyatt Regency Pier 66, Fort Lauderdale
Right place right time! Woof!
Best wedding…. I was in
Josh and Allison, Loews Don CeSar, St. Petersburg, Florida (photo cred my associate photographer JZ)
Commandeered the camera for this one below!
Best Bar/Bat Mitzvah
Jesse’s Go Blue, Temple Beth Am, Pinecrest
I’m not a Michigan fan but this Go Blue themed party was just insane! I loved how they incorporated our shots from the portrait session too. We shot a lot of great parties this year. This was definitely one of the best!
This is the last photo of Fred the First. Our Photo booth flamingo disappeared a short time later. He will be missed.
Best of Portraits
Best Senior Portrait:
Mady, Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, Coral Gables
Best Family Portrait:
Farkas Family, Wynwood
Best FAKE family portrait (for a corporate client)
Best Bat/Bar Mitzvah Portraits:
Hayley, Miami Beach
Elliott, Mattheson Hammock Park, Miami
If you haven’t noticed by now we do a lot of different stuff. Some photographers shoot only weddings, or portraits, or corporate. I like to vary it. I find by keeping the wide scope of shoots I’m never bored of what I’m shooting. I’m always trying new ideas and creating something original.
This year we also officially launched our corporate video brand. I have 20 years of video experience but I was always hesitatent to roll video out as it requires a lot of resources… and my bar is high for quality. This has been a soft launch three years in the making. Our corporate videos have been well received and each month we continue to grow the unit. It’s my hope that 2017 brings a new hire or two to help us keep pace.
Finally I leave you with a few of my favorite family images from 2016. This past year I have worked hard on “life balance”. Work, love, family. All three are important. This year I made a conscious effort though to pay attention to all three. The end result: A happier life. I may just be on to something here.
Sophia, my daughter, went skiing for the first time… and loved it! I think this is going to work out really well. 🙂
This past summer we took a two week journey though Colorado. It was spectacular to the point I almost didn’t come home.
My little brother Derek (suns out – guns out) joined us on our journey.
First camping trip.
And Mommy got hurt during her first time Mountain Biking (she made it down though!)
Thank you for stopping by to take a look back at the year that was. I wish you health and happiness in 2017.
